How to set up the Reference Turntables from Fluance (RT82, RT83, RT84, RT85)

This video guides you through setting up the Fluance Reference Turntables (RT82, RT83, RT84, and RT85). We’ll show you how to install the platter, motor pulley cap, dust cover, cartridge, and counterweight, and how to correctly balance the tonearm.

The Reference series consists of the RT82, RT83, RT84, RT85 models that share the same plinth but differ in stylus and platter configurations. The steps below do not apply to the RT87, for more information on how to set up the RT87, visit this article.

Important: If you restart the setup after setting the anti-skate, first turn the anti-skate dial back to “0”.

  1. Install the platter and the motor pulley cap.

  2. Lift the belt and place it over the motor pulley.

  3. Install the counterweight on the back of the tonearm with the numbered scale facing forward.

  4. Install the headshell on the tonearm.

  5. Install the hinges on the dust cover (place it on a soft surface to prevent scratches), then attach the dust cover to the plinth.

  6. Place the included bubble level on the platter, then use the adjustable feet to ensure the turntable is level.

  7. Remove the stylus protector and raise the cueing lever.

  8. Gently move the tonearm over the platter.

  9. While holding the headshell, lower the cueing lever. Do not allow the stylus to touch the platter.

  10. With the cueing lever lowered, rotate the entire counterweight until the tonearm is balanced and floats horizontally when you release the headshell.

  11. While the tonearm is floating, rotate only the counterweight’s indicator ring so that “0” lines up with the center line. Then secure the tonearm in its rest.

  12. Check the recommended tracking force for your cartridge and rotate the entire counterweight counterclockwise until the indicator shows the correct value on the center line.

    - For OM10, set tracking force to 1.5 g.

    - For 2M Red and 2M Blue, set tracking force to 1.8 g.

  13. Set the anti-skate control to the same value as the tracking force.
