This means that some records will have grooves cut closer to the center of a record, and some will be cut further from the center.  The auto-stop function of the turntable is designed to stop playback approximately 2 inches from the center of the spindle to the stylus tip. If a record is cut closer to the label than this, it may slow down and stop before the end of the song. In some cases, you may hear a slight momentary slowdown which is the tonearm passing the trigger for auto-stop to engage. This distance will work with most records.
